11. Gurbarch singh deod. "I am F.C.B.722 with nearly 3 years'
service in the Hong Kong Zolice. I was transferred to Lok Ma
am
Chau from Central on 5th May 1929 and was still stationed there
Last month. I am due for a further transfer but haven't heard
about it yet. I did not know B.543 Dalip singh until he came
to lok a chat about Hay last. I was on the ordinarily
friendly terms with him. He never seemed depressed or unhappy.
He never grumbled or complained about anything. lie nevor
expressed any annoyance about being sent out to the New Territory
again.
On July 1st I was on station cuard duty from 4 p.m. onwards.
When I went on duty at 4 p.m. 8.543 and $.553 Gurdit Singh was
sitting under the trees close to the back gate.
I patrolled
The other
to and fro. Those two were chatting together.
Indian officers were inside the Station. About 4.3u p.n. 1 sav
B.543 go inside the compound and heard him say "when the
Sergeant returns I will ask permission to go to Sar Tin."
B.543 had not then got his rifle. 1 did not see him come out
again. B.553 continued to sit under the trees. I did not see
B.543 by the flag staff. I only patrolled a few paces in each
direction from the path. I had no orders to patrol right round
the Station.
At 4.55 p.m. I was close to the path when I neerd a shot round
the corner from the direction of the big tree and the flag
staff. I went to the corner and then saw B.543, still in mufti,
lying on the ground on his stomach near the flagstaff with his
rifle pointing towards the station path. I saw him fire
Second shot. At the same time I saw the Officer in Charge
coming up the Station path.
B.543's rifle was pointing towards
him. ún seeing this i drew my revolver and at a range of about
25 yards fired all six rounis at B.543 as he lay on the ground.
